They have recorded albums in a wide variety of styles ranging from experimental music to progressive rock, all of which had an avant-garde edge. Cluster has been active since 1971, releasing a total of 13 albums. Musician, writer and rock historian Julian Cope places three Cluster albums in his Krautrock Top 50 and "The Wire" places Cluster's self-titled debut album in their "One Hundred Records That Set The World On Fire".
After a decade long hiatus Cluster reunited in April, 2007. They were selected to perform on June 15, 2007 at the opening of documenta 12, a major exhibition of modern and contemporary art held every five years in Kassel, Germany. In late 2007 Cluster performed at concerts across Europe and will return to the United States for the first time since their 1996 First Encounter tour in 2008.
Musical style
Cluster's musical style has varied greatly over the years, ranging from Kosmische Musik to Experimental Music on early albums, to rhythmic Krautrock or Progressive rock on Zuckerzeit and After The Heat, to New Age or Ambient Music on many tracks in the middle to late '70s, to truly avant-garde or industrial on Live In Vienna. Cluster always has an avant-garde edge even on gentle, ambient pieces. Michael Waynick, who reviewed Cluster & Eno for Allmusic writes a description that applies to more than the one album: "...too emotionally rich to waste as mere background music, evoking feelings of hesitancy and regret that rescue the music from mere vapid prettiness."
The diversity of styles on the various Cluster albums, with significant changes in musical direction from one release to the next, makes it difficult to categorize Cluster's music. The factors which are present on all 13 albums include the use of electronic instrumentation, loops, and the use of unexpected sounds to create a sense of experimentation.
Cluster has been widely influential not only to ambient and electronic music artists, but to techno, electronica and popular music as well. Artists and groups whose music has been influenced by Cluster include Robert Rich, John Foxx (formerly of Ultravox), Alex Paterson of The Orb,Coil, Oval, To Rococo Rot, and Mouse On Mars.

Other great Krautrock bands include ; Neu ! ...

Can ..

Xhol Caravan ..

and Kraftwerk ..(this is the best Kraftwerk ever .. They play music in the tradition of Gram Parsons' self dubbed ;"Cosmic American Music" . The band has not officially broken up , yet they have been mostly dormant since 2002 . The name comes from the two streets intersecting near (bassist) Brent Rademaker's home in silverlake . They have regrouped , with original members ; Brent Rademaker , Chris Gunst , Aaron Sperske(of the Lilys) and occasionally (Farmer)Dave Scherr (who now plays for Interpol) . Beachwood Sparks have started to play shows in California , and are doing a small tour of the east coast , with a stop planned for Philadelphia (home of many Lilys line ups) . Here is a primer on the band that brought the "New Country" to the indie rock world .

Myspace - The Beachwood Sparks

Ground Control to Cat Power / Commercial

Soundtrack to a commercial we(chan marshall . erik p . and myself) recorded in June .. The band was fronted by vocalist/guitarist Ash Bowie and guitarist Dave Brylawski. Eddie Watkins played drums, and Steve Popson played bass guitar.
Polvo are considered one of the key proponents of a genre which came to be known as math rock. Their sound was defined by complex and dissonant guitar harmonies and driving rhythm, complementing Bowie's cryptic, often surrealist lyrics. So unpredictable and angular was their sound that the band's guitarists were often accused of failing to play with correctly-tuned guitars. Polvo's songs and artwork frequently featured Asian/"exotic" themes and references. The band's name means "dust" in Spanish; in Spain it also is a slang word for sex. The band played the 930 club with Stuart Lupton's(Jonathan Fire Eater)group THE CHILDBALLADS . We had a good show and the stay was rather nice with us going to the sights in DC and then some hanging with old friends . The set included ; Lived in Bars , Willie , and Metal Heart . After, we spent time with our good friend Ian(Make Up) Svenonious , who posed here with his latest literary find ... Day Four started early with us taking a bus ride , where my favorite and beloved laptop somehow got smashed . Erik P(bass) let me use his , til I get a new one later today . We played a nice show that featured some new song selections from our new record coming out in January-ish on Matador. The show was done by midnite , and then we went to a local bar and shared conversation with friends old and new !
For now time to pull up the sheets and see you tomorrow and or Thursday in Tallahasee
Thanks so far . xx Cat Power and DDbs xx Rx xx

the Cat Power tour diary day two

We drove throught the dark and silent evening to Norfolk , Va . We arrived in the early morn , wandered the town and retreated to our hotel for some much deserved bed rest . Later the show seemed to be nice , everyone was in good spirits and we played a 1 and half hour set , that had ; dont' explain , satisfaction , naked if I want to , she's got you ( patsy cline ) and metal heart . Of this charge of the long coat brigade, the one band who should have made it was Echo and the Bunymen. Instead, that was the year they decided to break up. Their drummer Pete DeFrietas died a year later, and the band reconvened without singer Ian McCulloch for a sixth Echo and the Bunnymen album in 1990 that was met with reactions ranging from indifference to outright hostility.

Just two years prior to this, the future had been bright. With the release of their self-titled fifth album, the Bunnymen were set to achieve. They had two songs in high profile teen movies - Pretty in Pink and The Lost Boys - which increased their profile hugely, and Ian McCulloch's striking looks seemed ready-made for the MTV generation. The band toured with New Order and had a semi-hit with Lips Like Sugar. But instead of capitalising on it by doing an 18-month American tour, they merely faded away.

It's not that they didn't want world domination - they did. Ian McCulloch was the original rent-a-quote, dissing U2 before it was cool to do so, and telling every journalist who would listen that the Bunnymen were the greatest rock'n'roll band of all time, 10 years before Noel Gallagher-style self-aggrandisement became the order of the day.

So what happened? Would it have helped if McCulloch had pulled the same dumb moves as Bono that helped U2 become huge in the US, or if the Bunnymen had tried to become a little less weird? Did their own name eventually do them in?

In 1987, the Bunnymen were a long way from Eric's, the infamous post-punk nightclub that kick-started punk rock in Liverpool in 1978. Before that, Liverpool had been a hopeless cause, a city that was destined to remain in the shadows of the Beatles for good or bad. However, punk rock jettisoned the idea that the only way to distance yourself from the Tremolos and Merseybeat was to stab your keyboard with a Nazi dagger and go prog.

In 1978, three friends, Julian Cope, Pete Wylie and Ian McCulloch decided to form an imaginary band, the Crucial Three. The Crucial Three split before recording anything (Julian going on to form The Teardrop Explodes and Wylie turning into Wah! Heat), but it was Ian McCulloch who had the greatest success.

Teaming up with Will Sergeant, the two formed an iconic partnership comparable to Jagger and Richards. Instead of taking their musical cues from the Clash and the Sex Pistols, their band Echo and the Bunnymen was inspired by Scott Walker, the Velvet Underground, Television, the Doors and Jonathan Richman. By 1983, their credibility was firmly established with three albums of post-punk anthems and two genuine hits to their credit: The Cutter and Rescue. However, by the time that they came to their fourth, they had exhausted that sound. Instead they set about to write the greatest album ever - Ocean Rain, a beautiful, orchestral album that would be the band's greatest moment, yet sow the seeds of their destruction.

Ocean Rain still sounds remarkably contemporary, different and weird. The Bunnymen had made their grandiose pop statement five years before the likes of U2 and New Order. Unfortunately, Ocean Rain exhausted them. A creative paralysis was evident in their self-titled follow up in 1987, which would contain songs left over from the Ocean Rain sessions. 'Echo and the Bunnymen' also took the longest out of any of their albums to record. It was as if they realised they had hit their pinnacle and had nothing else to give.

Hugely influential, the Bunnymen sound reverberates today through the Verve, Flaming Lips, Franz Ferdinand and yes, even Coldplay. If they could have stuck around for a few more years in 1987, true, they could have had it so much better - but even though they burned out, they'll never fade away.

Alan Mcgee started a label called ; Creation .. As I grew up I had things such as ; "The Young Ones" , "The Simpsons" , "Family Guy" , Aqua Teen Hunger Force" ,"Land Of The Lost" , "What's Happenin' " , and more recently ; "The Office(Uk)" . Now , as the band continues to tour , I get turned on to comedy from across the pond yet again . I have been hearing about this show , a show where one of the main characters resembles me , ha ! , I thought , I have to eventually check that out .. Well , eventually showed up , and while getting ready for a show in Brooklyn's McCarren Park Pool , I finally decided to look up said show via You Tube . I was not prepared for what I would find . As I tuned in to episode after episode I was hypnotized by this show called ; "The Mighty Boosh" . This show , one part ; " Land of the lost " , one part "Sid and Marty Kroft" , and one part " Young Ones" / "Absolutely Fabulous" , brought me back to a place where , maybe I could believe in television again (ok that is a stretch) . In any case , join them for a journey ; Howard Moon(Julian Barratt) and Vince Noir(Noel Fielding) to
THE MIGHTY BOOSH ... this is something you just have to see , my explanation will do little to help ... enjoy !
ELECTRO EPISODE "Jazz Trance"

Nick Cave/Birthday Party ... Influential Uk/Aus

<left>

Sometimes a young person hears a sound , and not knowing what it is , (or that they should perhaps fear that sound) , the young person allows that sound to become a part of them . Sometimes , as for me , that sound is transmitted from unseen places over signals and wires , and received in the form of left of the dial broadcasts . These broadcasts created sonic imaginary landscapes for my youthful soundtrack . Some of these sounds penetrated and became a constant , bands like ; Wire , Suicide , Bauhaus , Joy Division , The Jesus and Mary Chain , Tom Waits , Black Flag and the mysterious sounds of the Birthday Party and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds .
All of these would become a part of my soundtrack , and The Birthday Party and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds continue to inspire and haunt the forefront of my musical life , and always seem to re emerge when I seem to need them the most ...
The Birthday Party , (Nick Cave's early band) , explored the dark side of the underground ; murder , drugs , mental torment ...The music was seemingly from another planet , taking cues from Iggy and the Stooges , and maybe William Faulkner . The band clawed a sonic noise into the Austrialian and Uk indies scenes , a noise , that most were simply not ready for ... As result , The Birthday Party lasted only 3 years after moving to London in 1980 . They however , left behind a short but great legacy of live mayhem and 'ahead of the times' angular post punk music .
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds was formed in 1984 by : Nick Cave (vocals, songwriter, keyboards, harmonica) and multi-instrumentalist Mick Harvey. They were joined by Einstürzende Neubauten member Blixa Bargeld (guitar), Hugo Race (guitar), and former Magazine member Barry Adamson (bass, piano). With this line-up, the band recorded and released their debut album, From Her to Eternity (1984). The group has been through many personnel changes, with Cave and Harvey remaining the constants. During their initial Australian tour, Birthday Party bass guitarist Tracy Pew also performed with the band.
Critics Stephen Thomas Erlewine and Steve Huey write, "With the Bad Seeds, Cave continued to explore his obsessions with religion, death, love, America, and violence with a bizarre, sometimes self-consciously eclectic hybrid of blues, gospel, rock, and arty post-punk, although in a more subdued fashion than his work with the Birthday Party." Nick Cave continued to explore these themes , leaving great albums in the wake ; "Tender Prey"(1988) , "The Good Son"(1990) and "Let Love In"(1994) , among some of the best . Cave also collaborated with artists such as ; Pj Harvey and Kylie Monogue , and inspired countless artists from ; My Bloody Valentine to Jesus and Mary Chain to more recently Cat Power and The Horrors ...
Now Nick Cave , and some of the Bad Seeds with (extra)Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie and Teenage Jesus/Bad Seeds Drummer Jim Sclavunos, formed "Grinderman" , which harkens the old sound of the Birthday Party .Now with things coming round in a circular way , Nick Cave continues to inspire and invent underground sound ! <left>

From Her to Eternity
The Ship Song
The Birthday Party "Nick the Stripper"

The Discography ;
The Boys Next Door - Birthday party..

Door Door, as "Boys Next Door" (LP, 1979)
Hee Haw (EP), as "Boys Next Door" (EP, 1979)
The Birthday Party/Boys Next Door:The Birthday Party/Boys Next Door (album with diff track listing)(MISSING LINK w/l rubber stamp catalog number MA 12 243)(LP 1980)
The Birthday Party/Boys Next Door (LP, 1980) - later released on CD with the band's early recordings, under the title Hee Haw EP
Prayers on Fire (LP, 1981)
Junkyard (LP, 1982)
It's Still Living (LP, 1985)
Best and Rarest (LP, 1985)
Hee Haw (full-length LP) (1988)
Mutiny/The Bad Seed (CD, 1989)
Hits (CD, 1992)
Live 1981–82 (CD, 1999)
Peel Sessions (CD)
Pleasure Heads Must Burn (DVD, 2003)

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds..

Chart Positions are for the UK (and US)
From Her to Eternity (1984) #40
The Firstborn Is Dead (1985)
Kicking Against the Pricks (1986)
Your Funeral, My Trial (1986)
Tender Prey (1988)
The Good Son (1990)
Henry's Dream (1992) #29
Let Love In (1994) #12
Murder Ballads (1996) #8
The Boatman's Call (1997) #22 (#155)
And the Ass Saw the Angel (1999)
No More Shall We Part (2001) #15 (#180)
Songs For A November Night (2001)
Nocturama (2003) #20 (#182)
Abattoir Blues/The Lyre of Orpheus (2CD) (2004) #11 (#126)

Grinderman ..

Grinderman (Mute) (March 5, 2007)
Grinderman "No Pussy Blues"

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://thedrugstore.blogspot.com/2007/07/nick-cavebirthday-party-influential.html' title='Nick Cave/Birthday Party ... John Coltrane . Stax/Volt . Sun Ra and a few others .

Suicide is an American rock music group intermittently active since 1971 and composed of Alan Vega (vocals) and Martin Rev (synthesizers and drum machines). Much like Silver Apples, they are an early synthesizer/vocal musical duo.
Never widely popular amongst the general public, Suicide are nonetheless hugely influential: critic Wilson Neate writes that Suicide "would prove as influential as the Clash. Listening to their self-titled 1977 debut from the vantage point of late 2002, it's all so obvious: the synth pop, techno, and industrial dance sounds of the '80s and '90s, and now the new New Wave of electroclash, all gesture back to that foundational album."
Rev's simple, keyboard riffs (initially played on a battered Farfisa organ before he accquired a synthesizer) were accompanied by primitive drum machines, proving an ideal backdrop for Vega's vocals. Vega owed an obvious debt to Elvis Presley and rockabilly singers, but his muttering, shrieking, nervy delivery was unique, sounding at once both fragile and threatening.
Suicide emerged alongside the early punk scene in New York City with a reputation for ferocious and controversial live shows; Vega stated "We started getting booed as soon as we came onstage. Just from the way we looked they started giving us hell already." The first album was reissued with bonus material including "23 Minutes Over Brussels", a recording of a Suicide concert that deteriorated into a riot. Vega and Rev both dressed like arty, pre-cyberpunk street thugs, and Vega was notorious for brandishing a length of motorcycle drive chain onstage.
Their first album, Suicide (1977), is often regarded as a classic: One critic writes: "'Dream Baby Dream', 'Che', 'Ghost Rider'—these eerie, sturdy, steam-punk anthems rank among the most visionary, melodic experiments the rock realm has yet produced." However, the ten-minute "Frankie Teardrop" might be the album's highlight, telling the harrowing story of a poverty-stricken Vietnam vet pushed to the edge: critic Emerson Dameron writes that the song is "one of the most terrifying, riveting, absurd things I've ever heard."
Suicide's albums and performances in the late 1970s and early 1980s are regarded as some of the most influential post punk recordings and helped shape the direction of indie rock, industrial music and dance music.
Ghost rider
<msprm name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/7WqOMPakGCg"><msprm name="wmode" value="transparent">

</mspobj>
Cheree
<msprm name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LBrn2mBWLeo"><msprm name="wmode" value="transparent">

</mspobj>
Cheree
<EMBED src="http://www.box.net/shared/static/az2bburd6j.m4a"autostart="false">

Jhn Rdn & Ian St.Laurent ... What you see is what you get ! There has been some things going on for the past few years that are worth mentioning for sure ; Making Time/dave P , R5 productions , The Lilys , Man Man , and Jhn Rdn and Ian St. Laurent . This duo , put together one of the most successful weekly indie dance parties in Phila history , let alone pulling it off in Fishtown for $5 on a friday night ! Most said they were crazy , they were right , but the party flourished for a year @ the somewhat sketchy "M" room on Girard Ave.
When the duo decided to pull the plug on the party "Hands and Knees" , there were more than a few Philadelphians left in the wake scratching their heads . So the boys decided to change plans again , opting to change the concept and name to "Crecendolls" , and move to an uptown Sushi joint called "Goji" .
"Goji" , neatly tucked into Phila's art museum area , has a few features that add the extra incentive to your party pleasure . For a start the venue has an outside smoking section , excellent food , and a dance floor that is notably more open and spacious then that of the "M" room . The new event ;"Cresendolls" , also features a more open music format , with guests and residents playing indie rock and soul music as well as the "new rave" sounds that made "Hands and Knees" a favorite friday staple . . .
Redden , started his first party "Socket" at "Silk City" . Amped by it's sleeper hit sunday night success , Jhn decided to continue on , lamplighting the way for the shape of phila indie dancedom to come .
St.Laurent , has a long past of dj'ing and music making ."Dub Diablo" , (his music moniker) , has been creating fusions of solid spun music for more than 10 years , working with Opal Rock , Rx , and many others . Laurent is unexpected @ least , promting fans to wonder ," Hey wonder what Ian's Playing ?" He also , did a remix for Lcd Soundsystem's;"North American Scum" , that was banned in it's first week of blogging .
Philadelphia never had it so good , and with ; Diplo , Dave P , Amanda Blank , RDN and St. Laurent , Phila is looking good !

Crescendolls Mix vol. one
maybe my favorite mix of the year . also iheart comix shares the same view !

1. rod lee - star track
2. mr oizo - patrick 122 (jhn rdn edt)
3. livin' joy - dreamer (nightmare)
4. bonde do role - office boy (shir khan)
5. gossip - standing in the way of control (soulwax)
6. justice - dvno (jhn rdn edt)
7. prodigy - girls (ghent noch) (jhn rdn re-edt)
8. les rhythyms digitales - from disco to disco
9. klaxons - gravity's rainbow (soulwax)
10. daft punk - robot club rock
11. daft punk - robot rock rock rock (isl jhn rdn mix)
12. digitalism - zdarlight (groove addiction)
13. the cars - just what i needed (balt version)
14. yelle - a cause des garcons (sta)
15. chemical brothers - do it again
16. a-trak - wampercycle
17. robin s - show me love
18. coburn - we interrupt this program (jhn rdn edt)
19. basement jaxx - red alert
20. todd terry - get down (kenny dope)
21. the amplid - plugin (lovely chords) (jhn rdn re-edt)
22. justice vs data - d.a.n.c.e.
23. la riot - kill bill
24. the avalanches - ray of zdarlight

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://thedrugstore.blogspot.com/2007/06/cresendolls-philadelphia-jhn-rdn-ian.html' title='Jhn Rdn & Ian St.Laurent ... We recorded the first half @ The Hit Factory Miami (where; James Brown , Derek & The Dominoes , John Lee Hooker , Fleetwood Mac , Aretha Franklin , The Rolling Stones and Dylan recorded)
, then went on our european outing . The Second half was recorded in Brooklyn @ the Rare Book Room with Nicolas Vernhes .
We covered a range of things from Kitty Wells to Nick Cave , so the record sounds very diverse . The sound also shows Chan going back to her rawer side . So "covers two" , (even though recorded by "the greatest" engineer Stuart Sikes) sounds nowhere near as slick and polished as "the Greatest" . The Cat Power fans seem to generally dig the new sound , which owes more to the 60's Bob Dylan "Band" sound or even the Velvet Underground , as opposed to the smooth soul grooves of "The Memphis Rhythym Band" . Some of the fans do however miss the solo stuff , of which this record and tour provides . Chan's is on a road that is much more solid and secure , and with "Dirty Delta Blues" , it seems like the compromise , (between dark and light) is a good one . What happened ? They released a handful of singles , one ep , and an album , that still resonates as one of the biggest industry fumbles . Aside from that , the music speaks for itself . "Give Me Daughters" , "When The Curtain Calls For You", and the epic "Search for Cherry Red" remain here in the aftermath for us to recall a time when indie music had some verve and soul . The band and singer (Stuart Lupton) parted ways in 1997 ? , Stuart started The Child Ballads , and the others started the Walkmen in 2000 . Here enjoy the sound and vision of Jonathan Fire Eater .
<left>

enjoy and share as you see fit !

Search For Cherry Red mp3

Salvador Dali's Garden Party - Television Personalites Mp3

<left>

</left>
Television Personalities is an English post-punk group with a varying line up. The only constant member is singer/songwriter Dan Treacy.
One of the original punk rock groups, their first release (January 1978) was the single "14th Floor / Oxford Street W1". Their second release, the EP Where's Bill Grundy Now? features one of their best known songs: "Part Time Punks".
Their first album And Don't the Kids Just Love It was released in 1981. It set the template for their subsequent career: neo-psychedelia, an obsession with youth culture of the 1960s, a fey, slightly camp lyrical attitude, and the occasional classic pop song. Their second album Mummy Your [sic] Not Watching Me demonstrated increased psychedelic influences. Their third album, ironically entitled They Could Have Been Bigger Than The Beatles showed Treacy's sense of irony: the TVPs (as they are affectionately known) were never to have any major commercial success. The first three albums featured Treacy and schoolmate Ed Ball; Ball left the band to found The Times, but rejoined in 2004 .

enjoy and share as you see fit .

Salvador Dali's Garden Party Mp3

White Lights - Bombs (final)

This the final remix the white lights(Rx .
