Nick Cave/Birthday Party ... Influential Uk/Aus

Sometimes a young person hears a sound , and not knowing what it is , (or that they should perhaps fear that sound) , the young person allows that sound to become a part of them . Sometimes , as for me , that sound is transmitted from unseen places over signals and wires , and received in the form of left of the dial broadcasts . These broadcasts created sonic imaginary landscapes for my youthful soundtrack . Some of these sounds penetrated and became a constant , bands like ; Wire , Suicide , Bauhaus , Joy Division , The Jesus and Mary Chain , Tom Waits , Black Flag and the mysterious sounds of the Birthday Party and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds .
All of these would become a part of my soundtrack , and The Birthday Party and Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds continue to inspire and haunt the forefront of my musical life , and always seem to re emerge when I seem to need them the most ...
The Birthday Party , (Nick Cave's early band) , explored the dark side of the underground ; murder , drugs , mental torment ...The music was seemingly from another planet , taking cues from Iggy and the Stooges , and maybe William Faulkner . The band clawed a sonic noise into the Austrialian and Uk indies scenes , a noise , that most were simply not ready for ... As result , The Birthday Party lasted only 3 years after moving to London in 1980 . They however , left behind a short but great legacy of live mayhem and 'ahead of the times' angular post punk music .
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds was formed in 1984 by : Nick Cave (vocals, songwriter, keyboards, harmonica) and multi-instrumentalist Mick Harvey. They were joined by Einstürzende Neubauten member Blixa Bargeld (guitar), Hugo Race (guitar), and former Magazine member Barry Adamson (bass, piano). With this line-up, the band recorded and released their debut album, From Her to Eternity (1984). The group has been through many personnel changes, with Cave and Harvey remaining the constants. During their initial Australian tour, Birthday Party bass guitarist Tracy Pew also performed with the band.
Critics Stephen Thomas Erlewine and Steve Huey write, "With the Bad Seeds, Cave continued to explore his obsessions with religion, death, love, America, and violence with a bizarre, sometimes self-consciously eclectic hybrid of blues, gospel, rock, and arty post-punk, although in a more subdued fashion than his work with the Birthday Party." Nick Cave continued to explore these themes , leaving great albums in the wake ; "Tender Prey"(1988) , "The Good Son"(1990) and "Let Love In"(1994) , among some of the best . Cave also collaborated with artists such as ; Pj Harvey and Kylie Monogue , and inspired countless artists from ; My Bloody Valentine to Jesus and Mary Chain to more recently Cat Power and The Horrors ...
Now Nick Cave , and some of the Bad Seeds with (extra)Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie and Teenage Jesus/Bad Seeds Drummer Jim Sclavunos, formed "Grinderman" , which harkens the old sound of the Birthday Party .Now with things coming round in a circular way , Nick Cave continues to inspire and invent underground sound !

Suicide - Influential NYC ! 1977

Maybe one of the greatest revolutions in sound , next to The Velvet Underground . John Coltrane . Stax/Volt . Sun Ra and a few others .

Suicide is an American rock music group intermittently active since 1971 and composed of Alan Vega (vocals) and Martin Rev (synthesizers and drum machines). Much like Silver Apples, they are an early synthesizer/vocal musical duo.
Never widely popular amongst the general public, Suicide are nonetheless hugely influential: critic Wilson Neate writes that Suicide "would prove as influential as the Clash. Listening to their self-titled 1977 debut from the vantage point of late 2002, it's all so obvious: the synth pop, techno, and industrial dance sounds of the '80s and '90s, and now the new New Wave of electroclash, all gesture back to that foundational album."
Rev's simple, keyboard riffs (initially played on a battered Farfisa organ before he accquired a synthesizer) were accompanied by primitive drum machines, proving an ideal backdrop for Vega's vocals. Vega owed an obvious debt to Elvis Presley and rockabilly singers, but his muttering, shrieking, nervy delivery was unique, sounding at once both fragile and threatening.
Suicide emerged alongside the early punk scene in New York City with a reputation for ferocious and controversial live shows; Vega stated "We started getting booed as soon as we came onstage. Just from the way we looked they started giving us hell already." The first album was reissued with bonus material including "23 Minutes Over Brussels", a recording of a Suicide concert that deteriorated into a riot. Vega and Rev both dressed like arty, pre-cyberpunk street thugs, and Vega was notorious for brandishing a length of motorcycle drive chain onstage.
Their first album, Suicide (1977), is often regarded as a classic: One critic writes: "'Dream Baby Dream', 'Che', 'Ghost Rider'—these eerie, sturdy, steam-punk anthems rank among the most visionary, melodic experiments the rock realm has yet produced." However, the ten-minute "Frankie Teardrop" might be the album's highlight, telling the harrowing story of a poverty-stricken Vietnam vet pushed to the edge: critic Emerson Dameron writes that the song is "one of the most terrifying, riveting, absurd things I've ever heard."
Suicide's albums and performances in the late 1970s and early 1980s are regarded as some of the most influential post punk recordings and helped shape the direction of indie rock, industrial music and dance music.
